ENGLISH LITERATURE ROMEO AND JULIET

I hope whoever reads this is well.

I'm struggling to annotate my Romeo and Juliet booklet. its not the whole play but just the key scenes. My teacher did tell me to never use the website "Genius" as it doesn't give correct answers.

Its hard for me especially as my teacher left for maternity leave and we have had a supply teacher-I cant email him as he doesnt have an email address.

Could someone please help me as I don't want to fail my literature paper 1 section A?

I would have posted it on an english forum but i don't think there is one ?

Thanks for replying.

I am supposed to annotate the Language structure and form of each extract. Points in the annotations can be linked to other areas of the text as that will help when I attempt the response. I am generally struggling with annotations as a whole as I don't know where to begin. I have checked the edexcel literature spec and website but I see nothing that could help :(

Hi EM, that's no problem at all.

The first step I always take when analysing a new text for the first time, is to write down everything that comes to me -- there are no wrong answers, as long as you can back your point up with a quote! I believe that any interpretation of a text is a valid interpretation, and so it's always a good idea to write down each and every idea or interpretation that comes to you as you read through a text.

Some key language and structure features to look out for in regards to this question would be Shakespeare's use of punctuation, or any use of repetition. For example, an exclamation (such as "O churl!") can be seen as being indicative of Juliet's distress and, as such, her desperation. Perhaps also look for some motifs within the text, or an overall tone; a tone of unhappiness, or a motif of death, could also be indicative of Juliet and Friar Laurence's desperation. These are just some helpful starting points that I look for when I'm struggling with annotating a new text! Please let me know if there are any areas of the language or structure analysis that you need help with :)

How far through are you with your annotations? Are there any chapters/characters/themes you struggle with in particular?
