One Question

How do you simplify the following:

y^1/2 - y^-1/2 (where ^ indicates 'to the power of')

This is an indices question which really has baffled me but as usual, I believe I am overthinking it so would love your guys' perspective on it.

While this expression can be represented in a few different forms, I'm not really sure what form the question is asking for. Is there any more information given in the question?

@Apaul466 The only expression I could come up with was this, by taking a factor of y^-1/2 out:

I believe Sriram has simplified it as much as you can. Normally, with indices that involve subtraction or addition, you cannot really simplify much.
